It's all too human to hear a noise coming from your car, figure it's "not that bad," and just keep driving. But the reality is, while some noises really don't mean there's a significant issue, it's always good to have us check it out at Mike White Ford of Coeur D'Alene, ID. We might be able to catch a repair early so it doesn't cost you more later.
Noise #1: A squeal
This is one you should investigate right away. It usually means a serpentine belt is wearing out, and if it breaks while you're driving at highway speeds, it could keep you from being able to steer properly. Obviously, that can be a very dangerous situation, so we urge you to bring a squealing noise to us right away.
Noise #2: A hissing sound
That's usually going to come from underneath your car and it usually means a leak. It's important not to touch the leaked-out liquid since it could be very hot and/or dangerous. We encourage our neighbors in Post Falls or Hayden ID to see us soon.
Noise #3: A squeaking
If it happens when you step on your brakes, it's probably your brake pads wearing out. Please drive here from Rathdrum ID or Liberty Lake WA in a timely way so this doesn't also cause your brake rotors to wear out.
Noise #4: A whining or humming
This could be anything from a "no big deal" diagnosis to your transmission going bad. Worth checking out soon.
Noise #5: A "rurr…rurr…" sound
Chances are good that's your battery trying very hard to start. We have very good replacement batteries in stock.
Noise #6: A clicking sound
Sorry to tell you but that probably means your battery just passed away. We offer our sympathies and a nice choice of batteries at a variety of prices.
A "rattling"
We're ending on what is hopefully a lighter note: This probably means there's just something bouncing around in your trunk. You can usually take care of that quickly and easily yourself.
